Interstuhl Liveroom
The space where New Work lives and breathes
Workspaces become inspiration spaces
At Interstuhl's headquarters in Meßstetten-Tieringen, the office space on the second floor was extensively remodelled. This has given rise to a new work environment spanning some 1100 m2, which purposefully lends itself to flexible use, digital control and real-life work processes. Not only was the space restructured in terms of function, but also reimagined in strategic terms: namely as a laboratory for sustainable office design under real conditions.Modular zoning and activity-based working
Central to the reorganisation is the principle of activity-based working, which is supplemented by a comprehensive desk-sharing concept. Workstations are no longer allocated on a permanent basis, but rather can be picked and chosen as the situation demands. As such, the space provides a set of carefully balanced zones - whether for focused work, spontaneous discussions, hybrid meetings or informal get-togethers.
Careful integration of equipment
The office equipment follows a coherent principle. Fully equipped workstations are located along the facades of the building, where natural light, fresh air and views make for a pleasant space to spend your working day. Technical equipment is also fully integrated, with cables being organised out of sight beneath the table and power cables and data connections disappearing into thoughtfully designed docking solutions. Project zones are kept open and furnished with easy-to-move furniture so that the space can be reconfigured whenever needed. Storage space was reduced to a necessary minimum, with printers and supply stations being organised decentrally so that users have to cover the same distance to access these facilities.
Materials and acoustics designed with employee wellbeing in mind
Great care and attention was dedicated to creating the indoor climate, too. Acoustically effective elements such as ceiling baffles, textile curtains and partition walls with greenery have an impact wherever sound is generated. Expansive illuminated stretch ceilings give the room a homogeneous core brightness. This is then supplemented by individually controlled lights with direct and indirect light components. The materials are chosen on the basis of the functional character of the spaces. Light, matt surfaces, natural textures and targeted colour schemes create a friendly yet reserved atmosphere that helps with concentration and promotes social interaction.A key principle of the new scheme is biophilic design: Connecting with nature has been proven to reduce stress, improve the sense of space and aid cognitive performance. Adding greenery to surfaces achieves several things at once - it helps to provide orientation, it improves the acoustics and makes a space more inviting.
Interstuhl Liveroom - a space to be experienced
The new office space will become both a point of reference and an experience space. The Liveroom is deliberately kept open and flexible so that new products, changes in team size, technological developments and feedback based on daily work experiences can always be incorporated. In this way, the space becomes a living test lab and a springboard for New Work innovation. This provides practical evidence of what can be realised with advice, planning and implementation from a single source.
