THE MILESTONES
"This is the story of how two people with a lot of passion and even more expertise built their first chair in a village forge in 1961 and went on to change the world of work. So what is the connection between chairs and blacksmiths? The tradition of blacksmithing in the Link family goes all the way back to 1731. When machines replaced horses during the "Wirtschaftswunder" ("economic miracle") period in Germany in the 1960s, this father-and-son team saw an opportunity in the booming textiles industry, which needed lots of seamstresses and, therefore, lots of chairs. The two men set to work, developing and refining their products. 1961 saw the launch of the bi-regulette - the first high-performance success story, offering relief to users as they work. Waving goodbye to their lucky horseshoes, the Link family were ready to try their luck with seating solutions instead. Interstuhl remains a family company today, although it now has over 650 "family members". From its headquarters in Tieringen, Interstuhl supplies the whole world with high-performance chairs and seating furniture "Made in Germany"."

Welcome to Interstuhl.

1961
"FIRST SUCCESS STORY AND FIRST PATENT: BI-REGULETTE"
"Our passion for strong 'German Engineering' was clear right from our first model. The individual adjustability and strong, high-quality materials (steel, wood, aluminium) were key features even then. Interstuhl received its first patent in 1962 for the height adjustment system used in this chair. It proved to be the first of many."

THE ARCHITECT'S DREAM: "FROM THE PORTER'S LODGE TO THE EXECUTIVE SUITE"
"Architects are often looking for a uniform design that can be applied to all areas. We are happy to help - we produce not just stand-alone products, but coherent, impressive product families to suit every workplace. That doesn't mean, however, that there is no room for individuality. Special requests are no problem for the Interstuhl workshop."
1980S
SAFE, ANATOMICALLY DESIGNED CHAIRS
As a pioneer of modern ergonomics, Interstuhl chairs always have an anatomical design. Interstuhl has a long history of working with leading occupational physicians. In the 1980s, these included occupational physiologist and internal specialist Professor Kim as well as Dr Åckerblom. Today, the Fraunhofer research institute is among our most important partners.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS FOR PREMIUM QUALITY
Motivated by the desire to leave our children and grandchildren an ecologically, economically and socially intact environment, we pursue a clear environmental policy. At the start of the 90s, the Company already had binding guidelines on the consistent implementation and voluntary exceeding of legal regulations. In doing so, Interstuhl set standards for the entire industry.

A NEW AESTHETIC IS GAINING GROUND
Interstuhl's understanding of aesthetics goes beyond outstanding design. We want our solutions to be an experience for all the senses. Not only do Interstuhl chairs have an arresting design, they also boast masterful functionality. We make chairs which are technically sophisticated, easy to use and as much a revelation for the eye as the body.
THE FUTURE
ON THE PATH STRAIGHT TO SEATING EXCELLENCE
The path that Interstuhl has been on since 1961 has been varied, sometimes rocky, but always straight. And even in the future, Interstuhl will not lose sight of its main aim: we develop chairs which provide maximum benefit for their users. Technically, aesthetically, ergonomically, ecologically and economically.
