Interstuhl has achieved full membership of the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme (FISP).

The UK Accreditation Scheme for sustainability within the furniture industry has certified, that Interstuhl as a FISP member, has a high commitment to sustainable development. This membership demonstrates that a company is taking its environmental and corporate social responsibility obligations seriously. As an environmentally aware and progressive business, Interstuhl fully supports the goals and aims of FISP.

The Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme was established in 2006 by the Furniture Industry Environment Committee (FIEC) to support and promote sustainable development in the furniture industry. Today it has over 70 members internationally, whether they are manufacturers, retailers, specifiers or suppliers.

The scope of this accreditation goes further than the ISO 14001 Environmental Standard by addressing all aspects of the industry's business, from purchasing and procurement right through the end of product life. It includes social, ethical and employment concerns as well as waste, energy and emissions. To gain the independent environmental and sustainability certification, means to:

• Have a fully documented environmental policy statement, which is fully implemented in the daily operation of the business.
• Comply fully with all environmental, health and safety legislations.
• Fulfill at least five chosen environmental issues and a minimum of three social and economic topics.

Excellence is identified through a comprehensive initial audit that shows a strategic approach to sustainable development. The accreditation has to be refreshed by independent ongoing annual audits (respectively Interstuhl bi-annually, because the company is ISO 14001 certified). Holding the FISP certification means to be proved by the company's sustainability. This membership demonstrates that Interstuhl is taking its environmental and corporate social responsibilities seriously and ensures their working policies and practices are fully up-to-date.
